Your Partner for a Successful Move

Packing paintings properly is crucial to ensure their protection during a move. Follow these steps to pack your paintings securely:

  1. Gather necessary supplies: Obtain acid-free tissue paper, bubble wrap, packing tape, cardboard or foam boards, and sturdy boxes that can accommodate the size of your paintings.
  2. Prepare the paintings: Start by removing any hanging hardware from the paintings. Take photographs of each painting for reference and documentation.
  3. Protect the surface: Place a layer of acid-free tissue paper over the front of the painting to protect its surface. This will prevent any direct contact with bubble wrap or other materials.
  4. Wrap in bubble wrap: Carefully wrap the painting in a layer of bubble wrap, starting from one edge and working your way around. Ensure the bubble wrap is snug but not too tight.
  5. Secure with tape: Use packing tape to secure the bubble wrap in place, making sure it doesn’t shift or come loose during transportation.
  6. Reinforce with cardboard or foam boards: For additional protection, place a piece of cardboard or foam board on both sides of the wrapped painting. Secure them with tape to create a sturdy protective barrier.
  7. Select the appropriate box: Choose a box that can accommodate the size of the painting with some extra space for padding. Ensure the box is sturdy and in good condition.
  8. Pad the box: Line the bottom of the box with packing material such as bubble wrap or crumpled paper. This provides a cushioning layer for the painting.
  9. Place the painting in the box: Carefully place the wrapped and protected painting into the box, ensuring it is snug but not too tight. Fill any remaining gaps with additional packing material to prevent movement.
  10. Seal and label the box: Close the box securely with packing tape and label it as “Fragile” and “Artwork – Handle with Care.” Indicate the correct orientation of the painting (e.g., “This Side Up”) to prevent mishandling.

By following these steps, you can pack your Painting securely and minimize the risk of damage during the move. Taking the time to properly protect and package your artwork will help ensure it arrives at your new location in excellent condition.
